Henry Yun is CEO and Co-Founder of Epic Star Energy, bringing over 25 years of experience in renewable energy, technology development, and executive leadership at Fortune 500 companies.
Prior to Epic Star Energy, Mr. Yun was founder and CEO of 174 Power Global and Chariot Energy, portfolio companies of the Hanwha Group, where he led the development of over 8 GW of energy projects and formation of a 1.6 GW project joint venture with Total Renewables. Mr. Yun has also spearheaded entry into new markets including distributed generation, energy infrastructure for data centers, and green hydrogen development.
Mr. Yun has BS/PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Washington, MBA from Kellogg School of Management, and has been granted 4 US patents in the area of optics in semiconductor technology.
Kelly Sarber is a seasoned professional with a proven track record developing some of the nation’s largest projects in renewable energy, waste/ recycling, wastewater, and alternative energy. Sarber’s nickname is “The Site Whisperer” for her innate ability to navigate complicated development processes while incubating sites sourced from her deep relationships spanning decades and covering many industries from sources including senior management teams, municipalities, engineering firms, regulators, and private equity. Sarber currently is sourcing several gigawatts of projects for EPIC’s pipeline in key, target markets.
Prior to founding EPIC, Ms. Sarber placed large scale, utility-sized projects for Starwood Energy, Hanwha, SCE and SDG&E. She was responsible for developing the largest energy storage project in New York City (100MW) for Hanwha plus conceived and developed the nation’s largest renewable energy project for La Paz County, Arizona on 18,000 acres with 3.2 gigawatts of solar and 2.0 gigawatts of energy storage under construction with power sold to SCE. In the waste and water industries, Sarber developed assets that carry a terminal value of over $8 billion. Prior to co-founding EPIC, Sarber was CEO of Strategic Management Group and was a co-founder of Synagro Technologies that sold to The Carlyle Group. Ms. Sarber has a BS from UCLA, MBA in finance and marketing from University of Colorado and conducted post graduate work at Harvard Business School.
Vivek Agastya is Chief Financial Officer of EPIC Star Energy.
Mr. Agasta has over 20 years of experience in investments, corporate finance and M&A in the renewable energy and sustainability sectors at Fortistar Capital and Credit Suisse’s Investment Banking division. He’s executed over $1.5 Billion of M&A transactions in the power sector and over $1.0 Billion of financings across the capital stack including senior and mezzanine debt, tax equity and preferred and common equity. Mr. Agastya supervises several of Fortistar Capital’s sustainability focused growth equity investments including as Director or Observer on the Board of several companies in the lithium-ion battery and electric mobility sectors.
Mr. Agastya received an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and B. Tech. in Mechanical Eng from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
Kristin Schuhrke is a seasoned energy industry leader. She brings to the team nearly two decades of deep energy project development experience spanning many technologies from utility-scale wind, solar and energy storage to oil and gas, green hydrogen, green data centers, and distributed generation energy storage.
Her experience in battery energy storage development spans the full project lifecycle from concept to construction and project financing with an acute interest in early project development and real estate, having led nearly $40M of real estate transactions in support of energy storage projects alone. Ms. Schuhrke approaches development with a keen focus on thoughtful analysis, innovation, planning, and teamwork. Having started her career as a geographer, she is a spatial thinker believing understanding and communicating spatial relationships among complex factors are key to developing viable projects. Ms. Schuhrke holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Studies, and Geology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Rick Hohenstein is an accomplished renewable energy executive with over 35 years of experience spanning manufacturing, construction, and sustainability-focused industries.
Mr. Hohenstein has been instrumental in delivering more than 3.5 GW of renewable energy projects across North America, including utility-scale solar, energy storage, and innovative hydrogen generation facilities. Notable achievements include leading gigawatt-scale hydrogen projects in Hawaii and Arizona, supporting the U.S. Hydrogen Hub initiative. His diverse expertise encompasses procurement management, logistics optimization, and project execution, ensuring seamless alignment with environmental and organizational goals.
Mr. Hoohenstein has held senior leadership roles at renowned firms, where he developed and managed complex renewable energy portfolios, enhancing operational efficiency and driving cost savings. His skill set includes business process analysis, supplier relations, and the RFx process management. Passionate about advancing sustainable energy solutions, Mr. Hohenstein’s leadership continues to contribute to the global transition toward a cleaner and greener energy future.
Anne Frank-Shapiro serves as Chief Compliance Officer of EPIC Star Energy. She has over 30+ years of senior operational experience across Private Equity, SPACs and a Global Investment Bank.
Ms. Frank-Shapiro also served as COO of Climate Real Impact Solutions LLC. Previously, Ms. Frank-Shapiro served as CAO and Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) of PE firms, Pegasus Capital Advisors and PE firm, Hudson Clean Energy.
During 20+ years at Credit Suisse, Ms. Frank-Shapiro held senior positions in IBD including COO for Global Emerging Markets head and led IBD’s Global Expense Management, client account reviews and profitability models (subsequently rolled out across CS), and led cross-divisional initiatives, including expanding Structured Products and Large Cap coverage across CS.
Ms. Frank Shapiro currently serves as a Trustee of The Town Hall, a national historic landmark venue in NYC.
Ms. Frank-Shapiro has a BS in Mathematics from SUNY Buffalo, and an MBA in Finance from NYU Stern.
Ms. Biesty is a highly seasoned developer with over 20 years of experience in renewable energy projects including solar PV and utility scale BESS. Ms. Biesty has a proven track record at top-tier development companies such as BrightNight, 174PG and Brookfield Renewables where she led permitting and development departments. At Epic, Ms. Biesty works closely with staff on all phases of renewable energy project development, including site evaluation, permitting, land acquisition, GIS services, and stakeholder outreach.
Ms. Biesty is highly regarded in the industry, known for her demonstrated ability to navigate the complex entitlement processes for projects on both private and public lands and deliver projects to completion. She excels at building effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including communities, customers, contractors, and public officials. Ms. Biesty holds a BA in Anthropology and Archaeology from Stanford University and Master of Environmental Science and Management from the Bren School at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
John Cavalier has been a leader and visionary in clean energy, with extensive experience in strategic advisory and corporate finance for sustainable energy companies.
Mr. Cavalier is a Co-Founder and serves as Chairperson of EPIC Star Energy, Managing Partner of CRIS LLC., and as Senior Advisor to Roth Capital, Ancoris Capital, Activate Capital and Braemar Energy Ventures.
In 2008, Mr. Cavalier co-founded Hudson Clean Energy, a $ 1.2B global Sustainability PE fund. Previously, he was Chairman of Credit Suisse’s Global Energy. He led Renewable Energy IPO of the Year in 2005, 2006, and 2007, earning Bloomberg Finance “Renewables Banker of the Year” award. Previously, Mr. Cavalier was a founding member of the Power & Utilities Group at Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette (“DLJ”).
Mr. Cavalier served nine years in US Army, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his work in the Judge Advocates General’s Corps. He holds degrees from the US Military Academy, University of Illinois Law School and Harvard Business School.
Mark Comora is Founder and President of Fortistar LLC, a private investment company that owns and invests in companies focused on decarbonization; Chairman of the Board of OPAL Fuels, a public company that is a leader in the production and distribution of renewable natural gas (RNG) that displaces diesel as a transportation fuel and provides renewable electricity; and a Trustee of the American Museum of Fly Fishing. Mark is married with two sons and four grandchildren.
Nadeem Nisar has been serving as a Managing Director of Fortistar since July 2008, as the Head of the Investment Team. He is a member of the management and investment committees which oversee the operations of Fortistar’s portfolio companies where he serves on the board of directors for Carbonfree Chemicals LLC, Braven Environmental and Pellucere Technologies. Mr. Nisar has executed a successful long-term strategy of sponsoring control investments in large-scale power generation and energy infrastructure companies and led growth equity investments in biofuels, carbon capture, and circular economy sectors. He was with Deutsche Bank AG’s Power & Utilities group and Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC’s M&A and Global Energy teams, advising on $30 billion in M&A and $20 billion in financing transactions. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Washington University and a BA in Physics and Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University.
